The phase of mitosis associated with chromosomes aligned at the center of the cell and centromeres aligned at the metaphase plate is called "Metaphase." 

In metaphase, the replicated chromosomes line up along the metaphase plate, which is an imaginary plane equidistant from the two spindle poles. Each chromosome is attached to the mitotic spindle fibers via its centromere. The alignment at the metaphase plate ensures that during the subsequent phase, anaphase, sister chromatids will be separated and pulled toward opposite poles of the cell, resulting in the equal distribution of chromosomes to the daughter cells.
