There are many occasions when we have doubts regarding studies,  syllabus, assignments and  examinations. Sometimes, it becomes too late to meet the professors in person and only way left for communication is an email. An email is an effective tool of communication if written effectively and while writing to a Professor, one must be more careful as it will portray your image in the eyes of your professor as it reflects. Also, Professors reply somewhat depends on the way you address him and write him. Below are some small things to be taken care of while writing an email to your Professor.

  • Always use your academic account for sending e-Mail to your professors.
  • Use right Salutations while addressing your Professor. Never address him/her by their name directly. Always use Dear before the name.
  • The body of the text should contain your doubts in an unambiguous language which should reflect your query clearly. There should be greetings before raising the query like Hi, Hello etc.
  • Before raising a query, you should make sure that you are not raising a silly point. For that, you should go through the syllabus and study material thoroughly in order to ascertain that your query has not already been answered in the material.
  • Your email should be concise and to the point. Further, do not write anything for an instant reply. You are not the only student they are dealing with. They have hundreds of such queries to be replied. Therefore, instead of using sentences like waiting for an early reply, one should use ‘Please advise me as per your convenience’.
